The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in partnership with Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI) has organised a stakeholders consultation meeting on the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) for Climate Change mitigation.The meeting, held in Tamale, was to discuss the potential impact, and associated risks for priority risk domains, and to discuss potential adaptation response options.

It was further to discuss the findings of the national level climate change scenarios analysis and the implications for Tamale Metropolis in the Northern Region.

Dr Antwi-Boasiako Amoah, Director of Climate Vulnerability and Adaptation at EPA, speaking during the meeting, enlightened participants on the NAP project and said it was being implemented by EPA under the auspices of the MESTI, and would end in 2024.

He said it sought to build the resilience of local communities through effective climate change adaptation.

The project received technical and financial support from the Green Climate Fund through the United Nations Environment Programme, and identified Tamale and Sekondi-Takoradi for comprehensive risk assessment for the dry land conditions and coastal zone, where the assessment would inform in the development of the guiding principles of the NAP process.Miss Monique Cranna, the Director of Urban Planning at Zutari and the consultant for the NAP project at EPA urged stakeholders to support government to build capacity and a regulatory framework to support local renewable energy generation to enhance resilience of remote, and vulnerable communities.
